Study finds that police body cameras may increase assaults – if used improperly

Putting body cameras on police seems like a net good for everyone involved, but how to deploy them and what the subtler effects will be are questions that would be better to answer sooner or later. Otherwise, as a new large-scale study shows, we risk making things worse — body cameras could actually increase incidents of violence.

Part of the problem, it is important to note at the outset, is that there isn’t a lot of data — or rather, the data that’s out there isn’t organized or collected in a coherent way.
